Frequently asked questions
Orders
How do you invoice when each corrugated bale has a different size?
We invoice in square feet. If we use the example of a newspaper press, we shoot for
100 news papers, but sometimes get 103 papers or 97 papers. Since we are committed to reducing our
environment impact, we do not over run the order and cut off the excess to dispose just to get the square
footage to be exact.
Maintenance
Who maintains the machinery?
Packsize manages all the preventative and emergency maintenance on the machines
through our regional engineers. A wide assortment of spare parts is kept directly on the machine for your
use.
What kind of training is provided to our floor employees and maintenance personnel?
We provide all operational training on the machine during installation. This
typically takes two hours and includes all safety aspects of the machine, operating, cleaning, manuals,
spare parts, operator panel, designs, etc. We also provide a two hour maintenance training focusing on LOTO,
changing blades, schematics, manuals, blade height, air and power, our PM program and schedule, and safety.
What happens if my machine breaks down and quits producing cartons?
We have a 24-7 hotline support number with regional clusters of field service
engineers who provide technical support. 95% of all phone calls are resolved within five minutes on the
phone. 98% are resolved within two hours. If an engineer needs to be dispatched then they will be
immediately. We understand that the machine cannot shut your business down and take this very seriously. Our
uptime percentage consistently runs in the neighborhood 99.95 to 99.98%.
System Info
What power and air requirements are there?
The machines (all) run on 480 VAC 3 phase 16 amp power.
The auto gluers run on the following two power options:
Option 1: 208/120 VAC 3 phase, 4 pole 5 wire, 20 AMP (3 phases, neutral, and safety ground)
Option 2: 220 VAC single phase, 3 pole 4 wire, 20 AMP (2 single phases of 110V neutral, and safety ground)
Is the machine safe and what kind of safeguards are in place to prevent injury?
The machine is manufactured in our facility in Sweden and is CE certified. All
pneumatic control of the machine is disabled if light ribbons or interlock safety devices are tripped to
avoid injury. There is also guarding where needed. Additional safety guarding such as railing can be added
by the customer to keep people away from the machine if so desired.
How fast is the machine?
This really depends on the design being made but a standard regular slotted
container (RSC) takes approximately eight seconds to make. A larger box can be anywhere from eight to 15
seconds.
Does the machine need to be connected to our network?
The machine does not need to be connected to function but if remote troubleshooting
is needed or desired, a network connection is needed. An analog telephone line can also allow remote support
through the modem.
Production
How many designs will be loaded on the machine?
We can load as many designs as needed. We use the Fefco design system that allows
for numerical management of designs. A catalog can be provided and design requests can be accommodated based
on the need for a design not loaded on the machine. As long as the design does not need to have radii or
angled shapes, we can make it on the machine. We have plenty of customers who literally have thousands and
thousands of designs loaded on their Packsize machine.
Can I design my own box on the machine?
You will have access to a wide array of designs on the computer’s design library to
choose from that allow for custom dimensions. If you need a special design, all you need to do is send a
drawing to our support team and they will deliver the needed design to you for loading on the machine.
What happens if the machine cannot keep up with my demand?
There are numerous strategies here from working an off shift for batch production
of cartons to special designs to create efficiencies. Another option is to deploy a second or third machine
if the volume dictates it. Most of the machines at Packsize are only actually running on average about 30%
of the total available time to produce.
