Want Greener Trade Shows? Here are Three Tips for More Sustainable Events!

There has been a trend in the last year or two to make trade shows more eco-friendly. At Packsize, we strive to reduce the impact we have on the environment in everything we do, and embraced the idea of eco-friendly trade shows a long time ago.

Have you ever thought about everything that goes into a trade show? Here’s a quick list off the top of my head:

  • The amount of pollution from trucks delivering materials all over the country/world.
  • The material used to build trade show displays.
  • The carpet that’s thrown out after every show.
  • The pollution from flights and cars for people to get to the show.
  • The amount of electricity a convention center uses.

I could go on-and-on. These are the sort of things Packsize keeps in mind when planning our trade shows.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Did you know that most large companies hire other companies to build their display at the show? Guess what happens to that display after the show?

It gets thrown out!

Hardly any trade show material is every recycled. Here at Packsize, we re-use all of our displays. We also bring one of our smaller machines to most shows, which helps reduce the amount of electricity we use.

We also make an effort to keep some of our trade show materials spread around the country. This reduces the resources we have to use to get all of our stuff to a show, therefore, cutting our carbon footprint.

Go paperless! “Are you interested in learning more? Great! Let me write down your information on this ancient form with a dried-up pen.” Not too long ago, we copied down the information for all interested show-goers on physical paper. This process was time-consuming, wasteful, and prone to errors. With today’s technology, it’s much easier, and more environmentally friendly, to record all that information digitally. It’s really a no brainer.

Use local employees. In another effort to reduce our carbon-footprint, Packsize always tries to use as many local employees as possible. For example, if we have a show in the South, it wouldn’t make much sense to fly people in from the West. We are fortunate, in that, we have an awesome national Sales Team who attends shows in their area. This is not only an eco-friendly move, but a smart business decision as well.  We save quite a bit of money in hotels and flights by using local employees whenever possible.

We felt that this was an important topic to address because Packsize attends a lot of trade shows every year. Everyone knows that trade shows are important for any growing company. We need to be there and we want to be there. So, we try to be very conscious of our process and how it affects the environment. We’ll see you at the next show (used display, and all)! You can join us at PackExpo and FabTech in the coming months.
